- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 March 2013This is a very expensive set of scales - but i love gadgets and things to make my life easier. I was torn between spending this much money on the Withings and buying the "Omron BF508 Body Composition and Body Fat Monitor Bathroom Scale " which is a much more affordable price for a set of scales. I have just read the 5 hour body week book by Tim Ferris, and he recommends the Omron type scales as they are the most accurate, so in the end i bought both sets of scales with a view to giving away the less accurate one as a gift!
The Withings one is really sleek looking and setting up the users (which needs to be done via their website is quite easy - though if you have 2 people of similar build and weight i am not sure how well it would work) is really easy. You just sync the scales up to your Wi-Fi and off you go - stand on - wait for 15 seconds - job done. The beauty of these scales is that there are at least 2 apps in iTunes which you can setup and they will automatically update each time you weigh yourself - and along with loads of graphs and advice on targets etc work really well. All in all it is excessive for a set of scales, but if you love gadgets and find tracking your weight useful to help you diet then buy them.
As it happened the Omron scales turned up o the same day, and after opening the Withings one first the Oomron was truly disappointing. It comes with a handle to more accurately measure body fat, but there are none of the other tracking and Wi-Fi features.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 July 2011I've owned these scales for about 5 months now and I really wouldn't want to be without them. They look great, function well, were easy to set up (even on a Mac!) and the batteries last a shockingly long time. Yes they are expensive, but given the functionality they provide and the amount of use they have and will continue to get I think it is reasonable.
I've been on a weight loss programme since the week before I purchased these and they have been an invaluable tool for keeping me on track. I have lost just over 5 stones in 5 months, and whilst I do not credit the scales with any of that loss I do owe a great deal to the daily motivation boost provided by these scales. I weigh daily (which I don't think is recommended) and the scales are synced with my Withings account online (all wirelessly) but better still they update 2 cracking iPhone applications which I predominantly use to monitor my progress (Withings app and an app called 'Weightbot' that provides slightly different features and a great progress and predicted target pane).
The measurements are pretty accurate for weight (I get weighed weekly, independently of these scales, and they are always pretty spot on). As others have said the Fat measurement isn't quite so accurate, but as a guide the measurements are adequate. The average fat mass trend over a decent time period gives me confidence that my diet is good and that my weight losses are attributed to fat loss and not due to lean tissue wastage - which is an important monitoring tool.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 January 2013The most user unfriendly, unintuitive and overly complicated product I have had the misfortune to use. Uses a very unreliable, temperamental (but I dare say cheap to manufacture) wifi system that consistently either won't connect, drops the connection, gets 'confused' and has to be reset, or just plain ignores the connection and refuses to send weigh-in data to the server (or wherever the hell it sends it). The Withings tracking "system" comes from the same inept, poor quality stable: I am the only user of my scales, yet the "system" consistently does not recognize new weigh-ins as mine, but assigns them to an "unknown user". There is no way to force the system to only consider ONE user, this it seems convinced an army of unknown users is accessing my account! Each weigh-in requires a minimum of 20 minutes to a maximum so far of over an hour of trouble-shooting. Support is cretinous and, judging from the useless 'help' comments, seemingly staffed by those with learning disorders. The unit has a single button on its underside (the most inaccessible place!) that gives no audio, visual or tactile feedback, but must be pressed for various numbers of seconds to do everything from refreshing the network connection (fat chance), to syncing data with the Withings website, to resetting the device. Cleverly, the designers appear to have designed activation of these functions to be less than two seconds apart. With no feedback whatsoever. So, you want to refresh your data... Whoops! You've reset the device -- time to reconfigure the device all over again. What fun!
This may be a serviceable product in 5 or 6 years, after all the bugs and product interface mistakes have been fixed. In effect, it's a beta product and not yet fit for purpose, which Withings expect users to pay more that £100 for the honor of trouble-shooting.
A truly shoddy and cynically priced product, but a true learning experience -- this is a manufacturer that I will avoid from now on. In my view, this product is so poor as to be unfit for purpose. Mine is now on its way back to Amazon.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 February 2013I've had these scales for two and half years. Most of the time they have worked well, although I was somewhat dubious about the 2lb weight gain overnight (maybe this is as some other reviewers have pointed out - dodgy readings) that occasionally occurred (usually to the missus, much to her disgust)
Anyway - I was very happy with the scales until December 2012, when they stopped taking fat readings. After consulting with Withings Customer Services, my scales are 'broken' and the two year warranty has expired. After shelling out over 100 quid for a set of scales, I would have hoped for more than 2.5 years usage.
Withings did offer me a 50% discount on a new set of scales if I sent them the broken set. Since accepting this offer, they have become somewhat silent and have not sent me the return address or the discount details.....
Another week goes by and still no response from Withings Customer Services.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Hi-Tech WiFi Scales
I decided to wait several months before I reported my experience with this product to be sure that it was reliable. I was not really looking for a scale, but as an avid runner and cyclist, I had discovered a fantastic iPhone app, RunKeeper Pro ([...]) which provided info about how the Withings Wifi Body Scale could be linked to one's account with RunKeeper. Upon further investigation, I realized that if the Withings Scale lived up to its billing, it would be a great tool to assist me in getting back into competitive shape. Now I can proudly say, that my weight, and most importantly, my lean body mass, is now identical to that of my racing days of 25 years ago. Of course, my speed is no where close to what it was, but I think I am honestly faster relatively to my age group now than I was previously.
Setting up the scale was very straightforward, and it works with Snow Leopard on a Mac with no problems. As I spend about half the year in FL and the other half in NC, I was concerned about using the scale in dual locations. When I came to NC this spring, I bought another scale and after some trial and error, I got it set up so that it basically merged into my Withings account with the result that all new readings were added onto my FL data so that all of my data was continuous and uninterrupted. Absolutely could not work any better, even under somewhat unusual circumstances. And as hoped, after linking RunKeeper and Withings, Runkeeper automatically picks up the Withings data. Standing alone, the Withings scale is worth the money, although it is certainly not inexpensive. But in this instance, you really do get an amazing, premium product, which provides a continuous record and charts of weight, lean body mass, fat body mass, and BMI. And when combined with RunKeeper Pro, the entire package is a remarkable value. Also set up an account for my wife. The scale somehow recognizes her automatically, so no "adjustments" have to be made when either of us steps on the scale.
Almost forgot, there is a free Apple App (WiScale) which I installed on my 3GS iPhone and iPad, in addition to one's online accounts with Withings. If you are serious about monitoring your body weight and/or are a performance athlete, this is a no brainer. It will assist you in getting to the next level and beyond!!
As always, price and shipping from Amazon was the very best!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Muy buena compra

5.0 out of 5 stars Assolutamente entusiasta
Questa bilancia è incredibile. Fa esattamente quello che dice. Allora dentro la scatola (anche molto bella esteticamente, in stile Apple per intenderci) si trovano 4 foglietti (in 4 lingue, manca l'italiano, ma ci sono scritte veramente solo 2 righe, e anche per chi non parla l'inglese si capisce dai disegni), 4 stilo AAA, un cavo mini-USB -> USB (da utilizzare per collegare la prima volta la bilancia al PC/MAC per configurare il WiFi), 4 piedini da utilizzare se la bilancia viene posizionata sul tappeto, e la bilancia ovviamente;
In 4 minuti è tutto pronto e funzionante.

4.0 out of 5 stars Geniale ed innovativa..!
Complimenti.!
